University Innovation Fellows Program Recognized by the White House

University Innovation Fellows (UI Fellows) program offers undergraduate engineering students the training and support to become leaders who catalyze change on their home campuses. Nominated by their deans and faculty, UI Fellows help attract student peers to an innovation and entrepreneurship movement on campus. The Fellows are dedicated to helping engineers and their interdisciplinary peers may gain the necessary attitudes, skills and knowledge required for them to compete in the economy of the future.

UI Fellows create networks and resources that inspire and foster student entrepreneurship. Their work was recently recognized by the White House upon release of the Department of Commerce Report, The Innovative and Entrepreneurial University. Fellows are credited with profiling 21 universities on a wiki, alongside those campuses profiled in the report.

In addition, Fellows were invited to participate in a #wethegeeks Google Hangout hosted by the White House and were featured in a White House blog post, Advice from Student Entrepreneurs: "Be Fearless and Experiment".

Amgen Scholars: An Undergraduate Summer Research Program in Science and Biotechnology

The Amgen Scholars U.S. Program provides hundreds of selected undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in a hands-on research experience at some of the nation’s leading educational institutions. Currently, 10 universities in the U.S. host the summer research program. The Amgen Foundation has committed $34 million over eight years to this global initiative to make this opportunity possible to more than 2,400 students.

Eligibility

Amgen Scholars U.S. Program applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents;
  • Undergraduate students enrolled in accredited four-year colleges or universities in the United States, Puerto Rico or other U.S. territories; and
  • Sophomores (with four quarters or three semesters of college experience), juniors or non-graduating seniors (who are returning in the fall to continue undergraduate studies).

U.S. program applicants must also have:

  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or above; and • An interest in pursuing a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.
