Two Postdoctoral Research Associates at the NRDP Center at NJIT
The Center for Natural Resources Development and Protection (NRDP) in the College of Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has an immediate opening for two positions in the general area of environmental systems.
The first research position is in the area of hydrogeology and requires conducting numerical simulations of water flow and solute transport in coastal systems. Candidates should have a PhD in Hydrogeology or a related field and should be able to conduct numerical simulations using existing programs or programs that they develop. They must have a strong understanding of the fundamental of water flow in porous media, both saturated and unsaturated.
The second research position is in the area of biological systems and requires conducting laboratory experiments on oil biodegradation under various environmental conditions. The candidates should be able to set up bioreactors to deal with various compounds and should be able to correlate oil degradation to biochemical factors, such as nutrient concentration, type of oil, and the characteristics of microbial communities. The ideal candidate should be able to manage wet labs larger than 1,000 m2 containing the latest equipment including GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP, Atomic Adsorption instrument, and nutrient Auto Analyzer.
Candidates for each position need to possess a superior ability in their area of expertise, and a demonstrated ability in writing articles for publication in top journals. Also, they need to possess the ability for communication with scientists in other environmental fields and to mentor graduate students in relevant areas. The positions are at the postdoctoral level, but candidates may be hired in at the assistant/associate/research professor level depending on qualifications.
These research position are offered on the Main Campus of NJIT in Newark, 20 minutes from downtown New York City. NJIT is an equal opportunity employer.
The NRDP Center Director (Dr. Michel Boufadel) and staff are conducting research on major projects including the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Deep Well Horizon (Gulf) spill, and natural gas extraction from Marcellus Shale. Interested applicants are urged to submit their application in one pdf file that contains a cover letter, CV, and research statement to firstname.lastname@example.org.
