Meeting/Workshops

NASA-NJIT Workshop in Computational Heliophysics

January 12-14, 2016

NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA

Bld 258, room 221, 9:00am-5:00pm

The primary objective is to initiate collaboration between the NASA/Ames Research Center and the NJIT Center for Computational Heliophysics, and develop plans for joint research topics and proposals for NASA research programs, such as “Living With a Star (LWS)” and “Open Data-Development Element (ODDE) in Support of the Current Heliophysics System Observatory Operating Missions”, and others. These programs open new opportunities for interdisciplinary studies in computer science and heliophysics, and such federally funded synergetic programs will expand in the near future. These studies are driven by the tremendous amount of new observational data from space and ground-based observatories that needs to be analyzed for the deeper understanding of physical processes on the Sun and their effects on our space environment. In addition, rapidly developing supercomputing capabilities provide opportunities for numerical simulations of complicated physical phenomena with high degree of realism. The workshop will focus on current problems of computational heliophysics, including the interdisciplinary areas of heliophysics, computer simulations and modeling, mathematical methods, and big-data databases.
