About I-Corps

The NJ Innovation Acceleration Center invites applications to NJIT’s NSF I-Corps Sites Program.

Our I-Corps Sites Program offers specialized training and mini-grants up to $3,000 to teams with interest in exploring the commercial viability of their ideas for products and businesses that are based on their own inventions, University intellectual property, or any STEM-related technology. Accepted teams are also eligible to access to the Entrepreneur Development Center and its resources through this program.

Reasons to Participate

There are at many reasons to participate but the top three reasons are:

  • Participation gives you the best chance to make a real world impact with your scientific invention by turning it into an innovation that provides value to the world
  • Participation will immerse you in a state of the art, lean startup-based training program that has demonstrated advantages over traditional methods for bringing new technologies into the marketplace.
  • Participation will result in many new connections and open doors for follow-on opportunities.

Our Goals

NJIT’s NSF I-Corps Sites Program primary goals:

  • Accelerate the commercialization of new technologies, products and processes that arise from the institution.
  • Nurture students and/or faculty who are engaged in projects having the potential to be transitioned into the marketplace.
  • Develop formal, active, local innovation ecosystems that contribute to a large, national network of mentors, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors.
  • Encourages collaboration between academia and industry

I-Corps Site Outcomes Expectations

The purpose of the NJIT I-Corp Site is to nurture and support our teams that are transitioning their ideas, devices, processes or other intellectual activities into the marketplace. Some of the possible outcomes from NJIT’s I-Corps Site’s team mentorship and guidance are:

  • Direct commercialization of team projects
  • Applications submitted to NSF’s I-Corp Program
  • Licensing agreements
