Colloquium Speaker: Dr. Cooper Downs

Dr. Cooper Downs is an astrophysicist whose research focuses on understanding thermodynamic and magnetic processes in the solar corona, from coronal heating to coronal mass ejections. Since completing his Ph.D. in 2011 under the supervision of Dr. Ilia Roussev at the University of Hawai'i, Dr. Downs has been employed as a Research Scientist at Predictive Science Inc. in San Diego, California. His research specialties include data-constrained numerical modeling, improving 3D visualization techniques, and developing new methods for observational data analysis.
